Job Interviews - Get the Job you Deserve - 10 Mistakes You Should Not Make

By Lee Lister Well youve worked hard and finally have your interview! Its your dream job and your really want it. Want to know how not to make a mess of your job interview? Here are ten mistakes you should not make. 1. Being late you are going to be anxious and nervous and you are visiting a place you probably dont know where it is? How about planning out your journey beforehand and giving yourself an extra hour. Better to find the building that you are being interviewed in and then spend an hour relaxing and preparing for your interview, than making a mad dash and arriving flustered and late. 2. Not knowing the basics you should know all you can find out about the company you hope to work for. You will be asked about why you want to join the company and you should have a sensible answer ready. Your new company will like to feel chosen by you and they will want to employ a prepared and organized person. 3. Being unprepared bring copies of your resume/CV with you, even if an agency obtained the interview for you. Know the job specification off by heart. Prepare a list of questions that you want to ask. Potential employers like candidates that show a keen interest in the job. 4. Trying to Wing It - practice get a list of questions that you could be asked, prepare your answers and practice, practice, practice until you are natural at it. Our resource box gives you some suggestions as to where you can obtain some help on this. 5. Forgetting that your interviewer is the expert! pretending you know more than you do is a great way to blow an interview! Be yourself, dont say you know something you have no idea about you can be sure that your interviewer knows the answer because they work in that environment all the time. As an interviewer myself in the IT and business world, I often put in a technical question to check whether the interviewee really knows what they are talking about. 6. Not dressing the part first impressions count, if you are interviewing at a bank, for goodness sake wear a suit and if you are hoping to enter marketing, dress design etc then dress appropriately. Your interviewer will understand that you might not have enough money to own an expensive suit, but there is no excuse for shabby and unclean clothes. Dont forget your shoes! 7. Not being enthusiastic no one wants to employ someone who appears bored, inattentive and answers all questions curtly. Maintain eye contact, greet the interviewer with a smile and a firm handshake and show common courtesy. Don't be afraid to display your passion for the job and industry. Answer questions as fully as you can and be confident. 8. Not listening - Focus on the question that is being asked and don't try to anticipate the next one. It's acceptable to pause and collect your thoughts before answering a question. If you dont understand the question, then ask for clarification by saying my understanding is. Pay special attention to technical or work related questions that are related to the job specification. The interviewer may have provided information you will need to answer the question earlier in the conversation. Employers will be looking for your ability to assimilate new information, retain it, and, most importantly, recognize that information as useful to you later in the interview. 9. Not marketing yourself correctly - define yourself and map your skills to those that the job spec/advert are requiring. Know your major strengths and accomplishments as they relate to the job you are applying for. Use your answers and questions you ask to make you stand our and be memorable to your interviewer. If you have an unusual hobby, job experience or skill, then bring this up naturally. This is not the time to name drop though. Be careful that you do not make the interviewer feel inadequate or uncomfortable. 10. Being impolite remember your interviewer maybe your future boss! Dont sit down until asked, ask to take of your jacket if hot, say thank you to offers of refreshment etc. Express your interest towards the job you are interested in and thank them for their time. Even if you end up not being interested in the job anymore, you can never know if that person cant become a great contact person for you. If you obtained an interview from an agency, then also ring them back promptly and advise them of your interest in the role. Good Luck with getting the job you deserve! ------------------------------------------------- Copyright 2006 Biz Guru Services Ltd

July 1, 2006 is D-day for Federal Student Loans

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Chris_Studer]Chris Studer Mark the date if you have student loans or plan to take out student loans, major changes are in the works that will impact you on July 1, 2006. Every July 1st, the Federal Government resets the interest rates on Federal student loans, but this year is different. Not only will the rates on popular Stafford student loans increase from the current variable rate of 4.7% to a fixed 6.8% rate, but the government has enacted a handful of other laws that mean big changes for future and current students as well as students who have yet to consolidate their loans. Which student loans are affected?
The student loans that will be affected are those that are part of the Federal Student Loan program such as the Stafford Loan, the PLUS (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students) loan, the Consolidation Loan, and the Perkins Loan. Each loan type has a cap on the rate of interest that can be charged. While not at their federally enforced cap, interest rates on student loans will hover dangerously close after July 1st, 2006. PLUS loan rates will jump from a variable 6.1% interest rate to a much less attractive fixed rate of 8.5%, just half a point below the interest rate cap of 9%. Why are student loan rates increasing?
The rate increase for student loans is part of the Senate's $40 billion deficit reduction plan. The largest single spending cut comes from; you guessed it, federal student loans. With nearly 11 million students expected to take out $108 billion in federal student loans in the 2006-2007 school year, the impact has a dramatic effect on the nations budget. How will higher federal student loan interest rates impact me?
These changes wont limit the number of loans that will be available. Instead, those who do secure student loans to pay for education will pay back more money in interest over the lifetime of their loan. Most students use federal loans to finance their education. The rate hikes come at a time when students and parents are already struggling to adjust to the drastic increases in tuition and fees over the past ten years. How can I minimize the financial impact of these changes?
If you're out of school, consolidating your loans now will allow you to lock in the pre July 1st interest rates. Those in school or in their post-graduation grace period can still take advantage of loan consolidation before the "in school" consolidation opportunity is eliminated by the new Senate bill. Current and prospective students should be conscious of borrowing only what is needed to pay for school. Now is the time to consolidate student loans
If you have not consolidated your loans, now is the time to do it. By refinancing before July 1st, 2006 you can lock in your repayment rates at historically low amounts while enjoying all of the other benefits of refinancing such as a lower monthly bill, a single monthly payment, and a more attractive credit score as a result of fewer open accounts. Consolidation Options for Current Students
Until July 1st current students still have the option to lock in the lower interest rates by consolidating their loans. After July 1st, in-school consolidation won't be an option any longer under the new law. Students opting for an in-school consolidation before July 1st must waive the 6 month grace period following graduation, but will be locked in to today's historically low interest rates throughout the lifetime of their loan. What other changes are taking place?
Not all of the changes are bad, although they all involve higher interest payments. Students can now take out PLUS loans for themselves as another option for financing graduate school. Borrower fees will decrease across the board. The current FFELP fee is set to be completely phased out by 2010 and Direct Loan fees will incrementally reduce from the current 4.0% to 1.0% by 2010. Where can I get help to ensure that I suffer the least amount of impact from these changes?
The complete impact of these changes can be difficult to understand at best. Student Loan specialist companies like ScholarPoint offer experts to talk with and access to online guidance, loan calculators, and information needed to potentially save thousands of dollars. Those who are in the dark about the changes and fail to consolidate will unfortunately suddenly find themselves owing much more than they originally bargained for. With a little insight and a few good strategic moves, you can save quite a bit of money by consolidating your student loans before July 1st 2006. ScholarPoint Financial, Inc. is a national online consumer lending company specializing in student loans. We believe in combining state-of-the-art technology with world class service to help students and parents easily gain access to data, become informed, and enjoy the process of obtaining a college loan. Parental Rights in Children's Medical Care: Parents, Do You Dare Say No to Doctors?

By Shirley Cheng What's a more frightening nightmare for parents than their children's illness? It is the fear of losing custody of their children. In America, parents risk losing custody of their children forever when they disagree with doctors' recommended treatments or even when they want a second opinion. That's what happened to the Werneckes in Texas in 2005, Corissa Mueller in 2002, Pam Anderson in 2000, Tina Phifer in 1997, and a slew of other parents and children who have been victimized throughout American history. My mother Juliet Cheng was one parent whose child was forcefully and wrongly taken away by Child Protective Services over treatment disputes--not only once, but twice. The first time happened when I was twenty-two months old because my mother requested the doctor to stop giving me aspirin, which was worsening my condition and causing severe side effects. The second custody case occurred when I was seven years old after she had wisely chosen not to follow a doctor's plan to operate on six of my joints at once during the time when I had no medication to control my inflammation. Fortunately, she won me back both times so I did not receive the unnecessary, harmful treatments that would send me to my grave. The last custody case in 1990 made international headlines. My mother appeared on CBS This Morning with Paula Zahn, and the news was reported on CNN, in New York Times, Newsweek, Washington Post, among many other major media outlets. She gained worldwide support, including from celebrities like Connie Chung and Katharine Hepburn. When I was seven, I did not have a voice. Now, fifteen years later, I am here to speak for every parent and child because everyone is a potential victim to this injustice when the child falls ill--including your own child or grandchild. I am here to help today's loving parents protect and keep custody of their children. It is a crime when doctors force unwanted or harmful treatments on children, and it is a violation against humanity when the state tears loving parents and children apart. The American government needs to deal with each case according to its unique needs, instead of acting upon the same plan for every case. Just because a loving parent who only wants the best for their child disagreed with a medically recommended treatment does not mean their child should be torn away from them. In this democratic land of independence, the medical laws are extremely out of place. America will be better if it gives freedom to devoted, competent parents. The average parent wants the best for their child. We, the patients in our own bodies and caregivers who have cared for the patients for years, know what is best for us, better than any doctor or nurse. So, what is the question here regarding the parental rights issue? Is it who loves the children the most or is it who knows what's the best for the children? I believe that question could only be answered by God. God created us, so He must know what's the best for each and every one of us, but He gives us free will and the rights to care for ourselves on our own. But instead, our own people took away our rights, snatching children away from parents--their primary source of love and care--in order to do what's "best" for the children. Can't we decide what's best for ourselves? Where is our freedom to say no? Shirley Cheng (b. 1983), A.K.A. the modern day Helen Keller, is a blind and physically disabled author and poet of three books by age twenty. She advocates parental rights in children's medical care and students with special needs. "When doctors ask yes or no, parents should have the right to say no," says Shirley.

Waxing Pain -- Tips for Withstanding Waxing Discomfort

By Ben Johnson First, the bad news: waxing hurts. Think of it as having a large Band-Aid ripped off. How much it hurts is largely attributable to an individuals pain threshold. But, any way you slice it, pulling hairs out from the follicle smarts. The good news is there are a lot of things you can do to minimize waxing discomfort. The most important step is to find an experienced, well-trained waxer. A gifted professional will make the procedure as quick and painless as possible. Theyll know tricks to keep you comfortable. If they do a lot of waxing theyre also more likely to use better, more expensive products like Bombshell Wax which includes essential oils and buffering ingredients to make waxing faster, easier, safer and more comfortable. Seek referrals from friends who wax as this is no time to let your fingers do the walking in the Yellow Pages. Now that youve found a reputable waxer and have made an appointment there are a few things you can and should do beforehand. Avoid caffeine, nicotine and sugar for at least two hours prior to treatment as these will increase your sensitivity. Consider taking aspirin, Tylenol, Advil or some other over-the-counter analgesic. Relax and reduce any sources of stress in your life. Try to schedule treatment when you're most likely to be relaxed. Give yourself time to get to your appointment. Some people find a pre-wax glass of wine or a cocktail helps them to relax and dulls the pain. When youre in the room with your waxer communicate any fears or anxieties. Talking through the procedure often helps. Wear loose clothing and take off anything constricting or remotely discomfiting. Ask for a fan if its stuffy or hot. Ask for more heat if its chilly. Now that youre ready to be waxed make sure your waxer applies pressure to or rubs the area that has just been waxed. A good waxer will know this without being told. In addition, there are lots of things you can do to take your mind away from any pain or discomfort your body might be experiencing. Nothing works for everybody but you might experiment with one or more of these techniques: *Hold a towel or stuffed animal to squeeze *Suck on mints or hard candy or chew gum *Focus on why youre there and the end result of your efforts *Use breathing and visualization (think Lamaze) strategies to disassociate yourself from the procedure and any discomfort *Bring a friend for support and distracting chit chat *Arrange for a foot massage or reflexology during treatment Remember, the first waxing is always the most difficult. Consistent waxing of a body area will reduce the amount of hair that grows in that spot and will make remaining hairs easier to remove. Subsequent waxings will get progressively easier and less painful. Ben Johnson is the President of Amphora Worldwide, the parent company of Bombshell Wax, premium depilatory waxes and waxing accessories, Cream 100 Calming Balm, and Tonic 86, the cure for ingrown hairs. Learning the Craft of Crocheting - Beginner Crochet Pattern

By Lorraine Weston Crocheting is for grannies! That's the mindset of most people when they think of crocheting. However, this is actually extremely incorrect. Not only is it not done by just the elderly, it's done on a lot of things. It's even done on a lot of designer clothes. Crocheting is not an activity made only for our grannies and for bitter spinsters. It can be done by everyone. Especially, now that clothing trends are now more inclined into the use of crocheted items, popular clothing designers are also smitten by crocheting. However, crocheting is not only for the plain Jane. One has to have the patience and, of course, the time to be able to do anything crocheted. So how does one actually get herself learn to crochet? It really is not a hard skill to learn. But it neither is an easy one. In order to get you going, all you need is a good crochet hook, yarns, measuring tape, yarn needle, some pins, and a lot of determination to finish a crocheting project. Here is a rundown of tips on how to easily learn crocheting: Hold the Yarn Like a Pro For newbies in crocheting, holding a yarn could be quite a tricky job. Even if it only takes some time of getting used to, knowing how hold it properly and skillfully is not to be overlooked. It may not be the easiest thing in the world to master, but it sure is worth it. The magnificent work you can complete with the help of crochet is amazing. If you have a little extra time to pick this up as a hobby, you wont regret it. Here is how: 1. Let the yarn pass through your fingers upon holding it. This is how it is done: the little finger, then, beneath the ring finger, then, above the forefinger and the middle finger. 2. Another way to hold the yarn is to loop in the region of the little finger, and then, make it cross the forefinger. 3. Upon holding the hook, imagine how you would hold a pencil or a spoon. That's how it should be held. In that position, it won't be hard for you to heave the yarn from your fingers down to the loop in the hook. As you go along the process of crocheting and you start to get the hang of it, you will learn your unique and most comfortable way of working with the yarn. Don't be afraid to adopt a new method of holding it. It will help you become more of an efficient crochet craftsperson in the long run. Size Matters When it Comes to the Hook and Yarn One should not take for granted the skill of identifying the right hook and yarn to use in any crochet project. Hooks are identified through different letters and numbers that correspond to certain sizes. In crocheting, the higher the number or letter of the hook, the thicker the hook is. As for yarns, their varieties are identified through names. Resizing the Crochet Project Through the Pattern To reduce the size of a project, it is as simple as deducting some stitches. One can skip a stitch in a row and continue with the next to reduce the size of the project. To enlarge a project, it is as easy as inserting more stitches in a row. One can easily join two stitches of the same row together. This will make one produce a solo stitch on the next row prior to it. Reading a Pattern Like a Book What can complicate the activities of one that is engaged in crocheting are the abbreviations on a pattern. The use of memory and logic can help a lot in surmounting this little crocheting obstacle. The outcome of being able to memorize these important abbreviations is a much faster pace in crocheting and more efficient hands. 1. Crochet patterns and instructions are worked usually in rounds or rows. It will be indicated on the pattern if you are doing or working in rounds, rows or mixture of both. 2. Crochet patterns and instructions are generally ranked according to difficulty level such as advanced, intermediate, easy or beginner. Choose a pattern with a difficulty level that suits your abilities. Then, increase the level of difficulty as your skill advances.
3. Count the stitches that you have made as you go on with your work to monitor the stitches needed on each round or row as required by the pattern. 4. Verify your gauge by crocheting a sample of about 4 X 4 inches in the pattern. When your gauge results into a larger size than what is on the pattern, then use a smaller hook; when your gauge is smaller, then use a larger hook. When it's time for you to actually accomplish a crochet project, make sure that you follow the instructions well and you make your patience a bit sturdier than before. Prepare your devices beforehand to ensure the smooth flow of your crocheting endeavor. Now you know the steps of crocheting. You may not be a master at it right now, but at least you will know the basics. You can now start working at making magnificent work with this little hobby. Now, get to crocheting! Infidelity - The Grass Is Always Greener - Isn't It

By Michael Thomas Why did I do it? You wasnt there for me, because I dont know you anymore, youre different and youre definitely not the person I married. Its your fault, what did you expect. Sound familiar? Obviously there are thousands of other excuses, but the above excuses are from a cheating spouse who no longer feels loved or needed. The honey moon period isnt just a few weeks on holiday, it lasts differing lengths of time depending on the couples involved. I know couples that have married, gone on their honeymoon, come back and thats it! An affair then the dreaded break up. Indeed I know couples who had affairs and finished on their honeymoon. I also know couples where the honeymoon period has lasted 20+ years, then bang! An affair and Its all over. Most husbands and wives who cheat on their spouse fully expect that they can carry on with their marriage and their affair(s) with little disruption. Most cheating spouses want both and if caught cheating do not expect their marriage to end. Other unhappy cheating spouses get into an affair with the sole purpose of ending the marriage, they simply choose not to do the sensible thing and talk with their wife, husband, girlfriend or boyfriend. Sometimes, the grass seems greener, but more often than not affairs are doomed to failure. An affair doesnt have to mean the END! Couples that actually try to work things out after an affair have tremendous success, if you have children you MUST try, dont give up. If problems are worked out correctly the relationship can grow into something very special. Sometimes you just need to try. As to the answer to the title of this article, the grass is very rarely greener on the other side! Michael Thomas is an expert on, Cheating Spouses, Surviving Infidelity and saving marriages. Winter Aroma for Your Garden

By Alix Williams At this time of year, flowers in the garden are scarce and, with exception of a few hardy souls, the garden is usually a place to avoid until the warmth returns. But how many times have you stopped while walking during the winter months, wondering where that amazing aroma is coming from? Even at this time of year, nature still produces a number of flowering plants with the most delicious perfumes, and I have put together a list of some of those that you could use in your garden. All are hardy, with the exception of the mimosa, which is half-hardy. Some I grow in my garden, others I have found in the gardens of friends or from searching various gardening books and the internet. I was amazed to find out how many there actually were - and I am sure there are more! Aromatic flowering plants that could make your garden a beautiful place to be in the winter: Daphne is a small shrub with several winter-flowering fragrant varieties (beware: the flowers are followed by berries that are poisonous): Daphne odora Aureomarginata' has pink flowers, gold-edged green leaves and a heavenly scent - I know from experience that a vase of this in your living room will fill the whole house with the most delicious fragrance. Daphne mezereum is a deciduous shrub producing small, sweetly scented, pink or white flowers. Christmas box (Sarcococca) - a small evergreen shrub with delicate pale yellow/white flowers. Uninteresting for most of the year, in late winter/early spring it produces wispy clusters of white or cream flowers with a very strong fragrance. The blooms are followed by black or red berries. Viburnum - there are a number of different types of Viburnum that produce fragrant flowers, one of which is V. farreri (V. fragrans), an 8-ft shrub with pretty clusters of scented white flowers from November to February. Mahonia japonica - this medium-sized (6-ft) evergreen shrub produces dramatic yellow flower spikes with the wonderful scent of lily-of-the valley between November and February. But be warned: the leaves can be quite spiky too! Witch hazel (Hamamelis) is a deciduous, medium-sized shrub. From December to February, different varieties produce spider-like flowers that vary in colour from pale yellow to dark orange, but which all have a strong, sweet fragrance. Winter sweet (Chimonanthus praecox) is a medium-sized, deciduous shrub which flowers from December to March, producing small yellow flowers with a strong spicy aroma. Winter honeysuckle (Lonicera fragrantissima) is a climber and grows to about 7 ft, producing lemon-scented, creamy flowers throughout the winter. White forsythia (Abeliophyllum distichum) is a small, deciduous shrub giving white or pink flowers with an almond-like fragrance on purple-tinged stems in February/March. Evergreen Clematis (Clematis armandii) - this is a tall climber (9 ft) with long glossy evergreen leaves that are smothered with fragrant white flowers in late winter. Mimosa (Acacia dealbata) - Mimosa is an evergreen shrub or small tree for sheltered gardens or conservatories. It has silvery leaves accompanied by long, fragrant yellow bobbles of flower heads in late winter and early spring. So, with this range of fragrance available, winter in the garden doesn't have to be such an uninteresting place - visit your garden centre now! Sources Brickell C, ed. 5 Secrets to Growing Beautiful Roses

By Abigail Baker A rose is a rose is a rose - and there are few things in the garden more beautiful. There are 5 secrets I want to share that will help you to grow healthy roses. 1. Sunshine: Plan to put your rose bush in a spot where it will get as much sun at least 6 hours of sunshine a day. 2. Water: Drops of water on the leaves can cause burning, and lead to black spot disease so always water from underneath, soaking the earth until it is damp but not soggy. It is better to water thoroughly once a week than lightly several times in the
same period. Beware if your Roses get too much water, they'll drown. Water in the
morning or at least four or five hours before dusk so that any excess moisture
can be absorbed by the heat of the day. 3. Planting & Soil: As soon as the ground can be worked in the Spring, turn the soil to the depth of the spade. To the loosened soil add 1/3 to 1/2 as much again of composted
humus like leaf mold, peat moss, or composted manure, together with coarse
sand. Make sure to work the soil at least a month before planting. 4. Tidy, Tidy: Keep Roses healthy, it is important to gather up withered petals and leaves and pick off any live leaves with black spots. Prevent black spot - mix 1 tbs of baking soda with 1 tbs of liquid dish soap and 1 gallon of water together and spray your Rose leaves. 5. Prune: Always prune
1/4" above an outward facing bud. Always use a sharp knife or hand
pruners. Never prune in fall. Always cut off the suckers, they grow just below the bud union; follow them down to where they begin and carefully remove them to encourage strong new growth. Roses are classified into types
according to ancestry, bush type, and flower form and size - ask at your local nursery for the type you prefer. By Kent Pinkerton A general Power of Attorney is used by the principal to allow the agent to handle all of his or her affairs during a period of time when he or she is not capable of doing so, for example, when the principal is traveling out of the country for a long time span or when he or she is physically or mentally unable to handle his or her affairs. Any adult who is of sound mind and is competent to contract can execute a general Power of Attorney in favor of another adult who is of sound mind and is competent to contract. A general Power of Attorney usually reads: Be it known, that [insert name] has made and appointed, and by these presents does make and appoint [insert name] true and lawful attorney for him/her and in his/her name, place and stead, giving and granting to said attorney, general, full and unlimited power and authority to do and perform all and every act and thing whatsoever requisite necessary to be done in and about the premises as fully, to all intents and purposes, as could be done if personally present... A general Power of Attorney should only be given to someone the principal trusts implicitly, as it allows the agent to do everything the principal could do if he or she were present. Therefore, a general Power of Attorney has enormous potential for abuse. If the person who holds the principals general Power of Attorney cannot be trusted or turns against him or her, the principals car could be sold or bank account depleted. It is because of these potential dangers that a limited Power of Attorney rather than a general Power of Attorney is advisable. Power Of Attorney provides detailed information about power of attorney, power of attorney forms, medical power of attorney, limited power of attorney and more. Power Of Attorney is the sister site of Divorce Legal Forms. Listen At It

By Kathy Pippig Harris Listen At It Thanksgiving time and all the relatives were gathered 'round the long table, or seated behind TV trays. The television was on and some folks were watching it while visiting with one another. Something on television got their attention and one of the adults said, "Listen at it!" Someone else replied. "Well, if that don't beat all." Simple phrases were spoken by folks whose language was simple and concise. They had several idioms that were just as colorful; Phrases and words that brightened the room and warmed the conversation. In school we were taught to speak differently. The way our relatives spoke was discouraged. Sometimes our parents would say things we weren't taught in school. They'd often correct themselves, as if erasing a mistake. Of course we learned some of their phrases and used them. They were comfortable words to utter, familiar. We liked to spend the weekend with our grandparents. Grandma spoiled us whenever possible. They had an old home in the heart of a small town city. Their backyard was overgrown with fruit trees, cacti, berry vines, flowers, and shrubbery. And taking refuge amidst this were feral cats our grandmother fed. When my brother and I went into the backyard to play, the cats scattered, disappearing into neighbors' yards. My brother once asked where they went and Grandma said, "They jumped clean over the fence, Hon. They don't take kindly to anyone but me." She did sewing, ironing and laundry for folks in town and she often admonished us about the proper way to launder clothing. She used a washboard and a wringer machine, then hung the clothes on a line to dry. She didn't use a dryer because as she put it, "Your clothes will draw up and be too small for you." She told us when he was little our father was seriously ill with a high fever. One night while delirious he screamed at his father, "Shoot the lights out, Daddy." She loved telling us that story. Our father was her only child and she doted on him to a fault. It wasn't just their speech that was different. They did things that other folks didn't do. Our grandfather drank his coffee in a saucer and with so much cream the coffee was almost white. He'd break his cornbread up into pieces drop it all in a bowl and pour milk and sugar over it--eat it like a cereal. Our father's side of the family was from Arkansas and Oklahoma and they spoke with the accents native to their birth states. Their voices musical and often high pitched, it was easy to pick up that inflection in our own speech and at school my brother and I were often teased for the way we spoke. Our mother's side of the family came from Illinois and they had a tendency to talk fast. They had an accent, too, and my brother and I added that to our own speech, confusing the kids at school all the more. Our father's side of the family loved to laugh and have a good time. Our mother's side of the family was more serious about how they took life in; their joys more silently experienced and enjoyed. It was a rich tapestry of culture and mores from which to draw from and it gave my brother and me a multi-faceted perspective at life. Thanksgiving holiday was always an easy going day, comfortable and anticipated. It was the first real holiday of the season when everyone came together in one place, and a durn good time was had by all. As the years played out, more of the family passed on and the get-togethers grew smaller and smaller. The gentle melodious tones that once filled the home during the holiday had thinned out. Where the room was once filled with TV trays and long tables, now only one table is set. The food is still great. But the room is more quiet, the mood subdued. "Care to walk a spell?" My brother asked me after the meal. "Sure!" We put our jackets on and stepped outside. "Which way?" I said. He shrugged. "Doesn't matter. Down the road a piece." He pointed to the left and we took off. It was a chilly Thanksgiving afternoon, late in the day and the air was hazy with wood smoke. The streets were quiet as we strolled through the neighborhood we once played in. Remembering the families that once lived in certain homes. We passed the field where we dug the earth out and created a fort. The two trees we used for tree houses. The flood control basin where we caught lizards and tadpoles and took our dogs to let them run free. Somewhere in the skeletal trees that lined the sidewalk a Mockingbird sang loud and clear, breaking the solitude. My brother punched me in the shoulder, the trace of a smile breaking on his face. "Listen at it!" I shook my head. Laughed. We walked on and my eyes filled a bit with tears as I heard the refrain in my head from a room filled with relatives... Listen at it! Minimizing Breast Implant Complications and Detection

By Tara Pingle Breast augmentation with implants is the most popular and sought after cosmetic surgery available today. This is because the results of a successful procedure dont just have the power to transform a patients body, but her self-confidence and quality of life as well. However, if you select an inexperienced or unqualified cosmetic surgeon, you may end up with unnatural looking breasts or recovery complications that can change your breast implant experience from an exciting, positive one to a difficult and painful one. To ensure you are selecting the right cosmetic surgeon and that he or she is able is to achieve the best results possible, you should refer to the information and tips below when speaking with your cosmetic surgeon about the breast augmentation procedure and how to minimize complications and detection. The Components of a Thorough Consultation Once youve narrowed your cosmetic surgeon search down to one or two individuals, you need to schedule an initial consultation and come prepared. This is important because a thorough consultation can tell you if youre in the right hands. You should bring along a list of the specific questions youd like to ask as well as a sample photo of the breast size and shape you would like to achieve with the surgery. One of the most important aspects of your consultation should be a detailed breast exam. In order for your cosmetic surgeon to recommend the best type of implant, placement and initial technique for your surgery, he or she will need to carefully evaluate your natural breasts. You will know if your surgeon is doing a thorough job of this if he or she is taking detailed measurements of breast volume and width, shape and nipple positioning, and the width between breasts. If your cosmetic surgeon doesnt gather this important information during your consultation, it should be cause for concern. Limiting Complications and Pitfalls - Strategies to Discuss With Your Surgeon There are a number of steps that can be taken to make sure your breast implant surgery is as successful as possible. The following is a summary of the most commonly reported complications and telltale signs of surgery you want to avoid. Before you schedule your surgery, you should ask your cosmetic surgeon how he or she is going to address these issues to help ensure that you have the most positive experience and results possible. Post Surgery Infection: Your cosmetic surgeon should have a detailed strategy for ensuring you do not contract an infection as a result of your surgery. Most surgeons will administer an antibiotic for you to take right before surgery as a precautionary measure. In addition, the instruments and implant used should be carefully sterilized in an autoclave. Deflation and Rippling: Deflation and rippling are embarrassing telltale signs of breast implant surgery. There are several strategies for avoiding these pitfalls, the most common of which is overfilling your implants and selecting implant models that are smooth in texture. Nipple Numbness: Fifteen percent of all women who have cosmetic breast surgery are left with permanent nipple numbness. The numbness is caused by intercostal nerve damage (the nerve that provides nipple sensation), which can occur if the nerve is cut accidentally during surgery. To avoid this, your surgeon should take care not to cauterize or cut any tissue near this nerve. Asymmetry: The last thing you want as a result of breast augmentation is asymmetry. To help avoid this, your cosmetic surgeon should take detailed notes on any asymmetry you had before the surgery and adjust the amount of fluid or position of the implant to attain the best degree of symmetry possible. Post Surgery Pain and Nausea: To make sure you do not experience severe pain after your procedure your surgeon can employ a variety of pain reduction methods. He or she can inject a long lasting numbing medicine directly into each breast that lasts for several days. In addition, you should be prescribed a strong oral pain medication to take once the injected medicine wears off. Managing pain is one of the best ways to avoid the onset of nausea. If you still experience nausea, there are other medications that your cosmetic surgeon can prescribe including Zofran, Scopalamine and Pepcid AC. Once you have covered all of this information with your surgeon, you should feel confident in his or her abilities and that your experience will be an extremely positive one. 3 Ways Of Escaping TUPE 2006 Service Provision Change Transfers

By Ian Mann The Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 now applies to service provision changes in circumstances where a client who engages a contractor to do work on its behalf is either reassigning such a contract or bringing the work in-house'. There are two exceptions. It will not be a service provision change if the contract is wholly or mainly for the supply of goods for the client's use, or the activities are carried out in connection with a single specific event or a task of short-term duration. The effect of TUPE 2006 on the service provision change is therefore that employees will be entitled to transfer on the same terms and conditions as they enjoyed with their original employer upon a transfer of the service as a result of changes in contracting out or contracting in. The absurdity of TUPE 2006 is that many businesses will want to retain a stable workforce and retain their employees when they cease to provide services to a particular client. There are some obvious precautions and measures that may be used by "clients" and their contractors to avoid TUPE 2006 from having any effect. The following solutions are of course largely untested because the reality is that TUPE 2006 has yet to be fully examined in the courts. Encouraging objections by departing employees The first method for avoiding the service provision change provisions is to encourage the use of the objection by potentially transferring employees. Some businesses will adopt practical measures to provide incentive to their employees to remain with them, even if they technically should transfer to the client's new service provider. In some cases clients may select especially valuable employees by encouraging them to object to the transfer pursuant to regulation 4(7).Once this occurs of course the client will have to re-negotiate new contractual arrangements with them. Quota protection to avoid a service being deemed an organised grouping of employees Secondly, it will also be open to businesses to put in place systems to ensure that no employee or group of employees becomes dedicated to a particular client (whether exclusively or not) in the provision of services. After all, TUPE 2006 will not apply to service provision change where employees are not working in a single economic grouping. The DTI guidance explains that the team should be essentially dedicated to carrying out the activities that are to transfer (though they do not need to work exclusively on those activities)'. Sophisticated end users will impose conditions in their contracts for supply of services. These contracts may include a requirement that no employee engaged in the activity in question should spend more than a certain percent of their working time on that activity, and including appropriate warranties and indemnities from the supplier. Clients may also seek to identify in new contracts the specific employees they do and do not want to carry out work on their behalf, although new contractors may factor into the price the costs of dealing with any unwanted' transferring employees. This is a far more sophisticated model than entering into a series of one-off contracts because the court is likely to cut through a contractual device where the one-off contacts are in fact using the same employees in the same service provision to a dedicated client. Such a quota system may very well cause problems in terms of quality of service, particularly where the client relationship is important for the delivery of a good service. This is because in reality by increasing the number of or frequently switching between suppliers quality may decrease. The advantages of doing this would have to be weighed up against any disadvantages such as losing continuity and the detrimental effect on the client/supplier relationship. This will be a delicate assessment depending on the nature of the service. The Secondment Route The third method is to create a secondment situation. Similar to the objection method it involves the objection by employees to a transfer which allows the employee to remain in the formal employment of the original client although not continuous. Additionally, the employee is seconded to the new contractor. Once on secondment any further transfers will be avoided by regulation 4(1) which states that employees transfer under TUPE 2006 if their contract of employment "would otherwise be terminated by the transfer." There can of course be no termination by virtue of a transfer to an employee is only seconded. This has been used by the NHS in Private Finance Initiatives (PFI) in order to allow NHS employees to have the benefit of a NHS pension whilst being seconded to a private contractor. The Benefits Of An Engagement And Wedding Ring Set

By Diane Winter When a couple gets engaged, the man offers the woman an engagement ring as an expression of his love and commitment. The engagement ring becomes a symbol for all to see that the woman is in a loyal relationship. Sometimes the man will surprise the woman with the engagement ring when he proposes. Other times the man and woman will go as a couple to pick out the engagement ring. Next the wedding ring is added to the engagement ring on the wedding day. Since most people end up shopping for an engagement and wedding ring set after they get married, it is important to know how to correctly match them. In matching the engagement and wedding ring set it is necessary to use the same precious metals. For example, you would not want one ring to be gold and the other silver because they would look really odd together. Another thing is that the gemstones on both rings need to be the same. Some people want to have diamonds on the engagement ring and then add their birthstone to the wedding ring. Unfortunately, when placed together the engagement and wedding ring set ends up looking tacky this way. So, only choose one gemstone for both rings. The safest way to make sure that the engagement and wedding ring set looks nice together is to pick them out at the same time or purchase them as a set. Even if the man is looking for the ring on his own, he will want to have an idea of how the rings will look together on the finger of his future wife. Make sure that the engagement and wedding ring set does not end up appearing too bulky. When this is the case it ends up looking like the woman is wearing rings of someone else. A good reason to buy the two rings as a set is because it means there is less chance of the two rings looking odd together. Engagement And Wedding Ring Set At A Good Price Picking out an engagement and wedding ring set is a huge decision. Often these sets go for an exorbitant amount of money. So it is necessary to give yourself enough time to search around for the best ring at an affordable price. If you hope to find an engagement and wedding ring set at a good price right away, you will find yourself getting very frustrated. So go into the search with the understanding that it will take time and great deliberation. Sometimes you will find a gorgeous set at a very high price. By looking further it is possible to find something similar that you can afford. Whenever you purchase the engagement and wedding ring set, make certain that you get a certificate of authenticity with the price written on it. You may even want a warranty or insurance on the set in case some of the stones go missing. Bleach - Our Reliance on It is a Mistaken Belief; Part 3

By David Andrew Smith From the first two articles it has hopefully become obvious that bleach does exactly that. It bleaches coloured pigments so they are transparent. It doesnt clean by removing. I was trying to explain this to my son-in-law who said he swore by bleach and used it for many things. Only that morning he said he had used it to clean the tannin from stained teaspoons. Again I attempted to explain that the tannin was still there it had just been bleached so he couldnt see it. His answer was I cannot see it so it has gone and the spoons are nice and shiny once again.. Defeated yet again by the power of bleach! Having thought about this for some little time now perhaps I should reconsider my quest to re-educate people about the use of bleach. The power of what people perceive to be true using their sight and smell is too great to overcome. On top of that I myself have succumbed to the power of bleach. One of my cleaners was having quite a lot of trouble removing the tannin stains that had developed on the kitchen worktops of a well used office kitchen. In the end she called me in and said she had tried everything. The stain had embedded itself in the worktop and all remedies had only succeeded in dulling the stain. Not to waste any more time and effort on this particular problem I furnished her with some bleach and a few minutes later the work surfaces were looking as new. So even in my own world there is a place for bleach! None the less there are far too many instances of young children drinking bleach that individuals should not simply leave a bottle by the toilet as seen in so many households. Keep it out of reach, preferably in a cupboard that youngsters cannot get into. Secondly never use bleach with any other cleaner. We had an instance quite recently where we had been called into a nursing home to descale all the toilets. Limescale deposits had built up on these toilets over the last 15 years. So a team of six cleaners set to work using phosphoric acid descaler. A few moments later the toilets had to be evacuated by the cleaners as the fumes were overpowering. Un beknown to us the nursing home cleaners had earlier been round to clean all the toilets and had simply poured bleach around the bowl. Result a very nasty reaction between the bleach and the acid producing toxic fumes. So there is a cautionary tale to take note of. When the manufacturers say do not use with any other cleaning product they actually mean it! David Andrew Smith has been working for many years in the cleaning industry and is the owner of http://www.wesparkle.co.uk, general cleaners and also the owner of http://www.stonecareuk.net who are specialists in natural stone care and maintenance of such natural stone as marble, granite and limestone Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=David_Andrew_Smith http://EzineArticles.com/?Bleach---Our-Reliance-on-It-is-a-Mistaken-Belief;-Part-3&id=63170 xanax no prescription required

=== If you have a home office or are a small business owner, however, you probably need to be accessible wherever you are. Why? Because it's likely only you. You're the boss, customer service and technical support. There are other toll-free options that will give you the flexibility you need. Some services will provide you the options to - ring to voicemail ( often the voicemail system is included and some services will deliver the voicemail to you in digitized format, such as a .wav file.) - ring to your cellphone - ring to any other location you choose - use it as a fax line as well (incoming faxes may be sent to a fax machine of your choice.) This may be of particular importance to you if you are a home office user who does not want customers or prospects being redirected to your home line. You may have concerns if you have children around but can't afford a separate line, you may be using a shared line, or you may be on the move so much that a toll-free number bound to one location is simply not useful. An added advantage is that these ring-to settings can typically be changed on the fly from the service provider's website and take effect immediately . There may also be the option to program the system to route the ring to different locations automatically at pre-determined times. ===
Take Your Marketing Up A Notch
=== One of the big weaknesses of marketers, whether affiliate marketers or small business owners trying to get the word out about their business, is the lack of measurement. In order to know whether you are getting a return on your investment, whether you are targeting the right market, or using the right proposition for that market, you need to measure. The good news is that obtaining a toll-free number is now inexpensive enough that you can set up one toll-free number per promotion, per slogan, per ad, or per target market. Also a good service will provide you with backoffice records that offer excellent stats on how the promotion is doing. You may also have access to every number that has called your toll-free number - very useful for follow-up. This way you can maximise your advertising dollars and save a lot of money. Now isn't that your bottom line? ===

How to Retain Your New Customers

By Michael Fleischner Okay, so your marketing has paid off - you have new customers. The key to growing your business is to effectively communicate and leverage these new customers into advocates for your products and services and purchasers of additional services. This can be done in a variety of ways. However, some basics steps must be followed to ensure retention. Here are a few tips you can use to develop long-term relationships with newly acquired customers. 1. Proactively shape impressions about your business. Whether you're sending a welcome message, making the first contact via phone, or sending a letter, be sure to position you company for the long-term. Often times, individuals buy products without knowing a whole lot about the company their buying from. A popular tactic is sending a welcome kit or an overview letter that introduces your company, your values, and the additional resources you have available for your customers including a support email address, 1-800 number and so on. This lets you control your company's image among newly acquired customers. Otherwise, your customers are free to form their own opinion without any guidance whatsoever. 2. Categorize your customer. Is your customer a high potential? Are they a transactional buyer that will likely never buy from you again unless you offer the lowest price? By segmenting your buyers based on your existing database or known behaviors, you can develop customized communication plans to retain them for years to come. Some communication plan may be focused on up-sell while others may only be focused on retention. The communication plan you implement should be based on the proper categorization of your customer. 3. Show your thanks. Once you've acquired a customer, don't forget to thank them. This may seem trite, but done properly, this goes a long way. Often a hand-written note or personalized email from a company president can do the trick. The real key is to make the customer feel good about the purchase they've made and the company they've chose. 4. Provide consistency among all touch points. Once you've acquired a new customer, you must make sure that you provide a consistent user experience. For example, if the prospect contacts your technical support rep the first day after they've purchased a product and receive an answer to their question, then call the following day only to receive a different answer, they're going to lose faith in your company's ability to provide consistent and reliable support. You can benefit greatly by developing procedures that can be documented and delivered consistently - meeting customer expectations. This builds trust in your business and can minimize defections. If the consumer knows they can count on you to give them what they need/want, they'll be willing to forgo a better price or promise of a better deal elsewhere. 5. Share customer testimonials on future marketing pieces. Many marketers believe that testimonials are only for prospects. The truth is that testimonials can help retain customers, especially new ones, when they are exposed to positive experiences of individuals just like them. In addition to sharing testimonials, it is always a best practice to ask newly acquired customers (within 30 days of purchase) for their feedback/testimonials. The benefit of reaching out to your customers is that if a problem exists, you can react to it and if they have something positive to say about your product or business, it can be used to reinforce your brand. (Note: be sure to get permission to publish a customers testimonial). These techniques are very effective for maximizing lifetime customer value. By shaping the image of your company, providing a consistent experience, and sharing testimonials for similar customers, you can develop a positive, lasting impression with your marketplace. Most importantly, keep it simple. Don't overwhelm your new customers with tons of email, or direct mail. Develop a well thought-out communication plan that has a definite purpose. And most importantly, remember to thank your customers for choosing your company, product or service. Michael Fleischner is a marketing expert with more than 12 years marketing experience. Maximising Business Growth

By Brian James While there is no guaranteed route to business success there are key methodologies that you can apply to your business. These include key survival and success factors and building customer value. Lets consider these aspects in greater detail. Survival & success factors.
Two key survival factors are delivering customer value and producing bottom line profit. Lets take a mobile cleaning services business as an example where the barriers to entry into business are quite low. While you do have to invest in equipment, these costs are relatively modest. You dont have to invest immediately in massive organisational costs of premises and numerous staff. These overheads can be taken on progressively as you grow. The costs of delivering your service are mostly labour intensive rather than high material costs. By minimising your labour resource and only expanding as your customer base grows; you can manage these costs too. So overall, you should be able to sustain net profit at reasonable levels. You want to aim for net profit levels in excess of the cost of raising capital. By ensuring this you will always have the ability to manage your cash flow during growth spurts. Delivering customer results.
Your ability to deliver results for your customers is almost totally within your control. Your customers will judge your business capability from the quality of result they see and how you make them feel during the process. People will make buying decisions based on good feelings and to what extent you solve their problems. How can you add value to the buying experience of your customers? There are a number of elements you need to focus on. These include perceived value pricing, a supplier that will be there for them in case of future need or difficulty and a result that gives tangible benefits. The most value you can add in developing competitive advantage is the you factor. This includes your general attitude and that of your staff. Positive attributes would include empathy, enthusiasm, integrity and a commitment to the customer to provide astonishing service. Key drivers for growth.
What are the key drivers for maximising your success? I believe there are two main factors, namely, innovation and effective marketing. Give serious thought to what you can do to be creative and provide innovative solutions for your customers. One thing is certain. You have a unique blend of skills, attributes, qualities and values. Nobody else in business is exactly able to duplicate what you do and how you deliver it! When it comes to effective marketing, this is easy. There are many tried and trusted success formulae you can use. Here are some concepts you may want to consider: To what extent are you using direct response marketing to promote your business? What process do you have in place for creating up-selling and cross-selling opportunities? How do you segment your customers for marketing purposes? How do you make use of endorsements and customer testimonial statements? Unleash the Powerful Promoter Within

By Matt Bacak Dear Friend, Youre ripping me off. How? You may be thinking, We just met. How could I possibly have stolen from you? But you did! The fact is that you have valuable information inside you. You have golden nuggets that can make other lives better. Maybe you have already developed them into products, services, seminars, newsletters or email lists. But if you do not market your gold, how will anyone know? You must then persuade people to buy and use them because people are overwhelmed with all the options they have. But if you dont make your wisdom available, you are hurting me and others. I dont care if its a security alarm, a beauty product, financial services, a business opportunity, or anything else. Your knowledge, product, or service could be helping people solve their problems. And if you think your stuff cant help people, why are you doing it in the first place? So many times I see people out there and they have the best product in the market. But its sitting on their shelf in storage or its still in their heads and theyre not telling anyone about it. And at the very same time, their competitors (with less to offer and inferior products) are selling to people and hurting them. Think about all the people that you can help, think of the lives you can change, because you have something that could save them time, money or energy. Think of the last time that you bought something that you just were not happy with and really wished you never bought it at all. Then think about the last thing that you bought that you were so happy with. Doesnt it feel good knowing that you made the right decision? A while back I learned a huge lesson: if you plant bad seeds, you get a bad harvest. Well, its time to start planting good seeds and lots of them. You reap what you sow. Due to the fact that you never shared your unique knowledge and products with me, you ripped me off. Not only did you rip me off, but you ripped off all those you could have shared your message with. Quite possibly, you have ripped off the world! You also ripped someone very important off, yourself. Because you can be putting a lot of cold hard cash in your own pocket. Its your job, your duty and right to market, sell and persuade people to use your services and products. Discover how to market your products get them out there! The bottom line is that marketing is very simple; its an exchange between you and someone else. The more important of the two is the other person which is your prospect. In there pocket they have money that they have worked hard for. And if they reach in their pocket and feel money they are going to spend it somewhere, whether it is with you or not. Your job is straightforward; let him know about you and your golden nuggets. Market, persuade and sell! Warmest Regards,
Matt Bacak
