How To Write And Sell Your Own Craft Ebook

By Xandra Veal A copy of this article is available as a free PDF at www.craftbooksnow.com. You may download it and distribute it from your own site if you wish, subject to the terms of the copyright. Introduction This is not intended to be an exhaustive exploration of the different ways in which you can produce and sell an ebook on line. There are far too many different combinations for me to give adequate coverage to each. If you search Google for "self-publishing" or "ebook publishing" you'll probably find millions of pages on the subject. What I can show you is a system that I know works. It's relatively cheap to set up and hundreds of people are using it to make sums from a few dollars a week to hundreds. That's not to say that other methods don't work - some may even be better - it's just that I know this one has consistently produced results over several years. This is not a get rich quick scheme and I make no guarantee of earnings whatsoever. You may spend months and months working on your ebook and not make a single red cent. Even if it's successful you will almost certainly not make a fortune. Having said that, I know of one lady who made over $100,000 from her ebook so it is possible. It's uncommon, but it is possible. But the chances are you're not entirely in it for the money anyway. In my experience craft book writers usually start off with a desire to share what they know. They're not out to get rich by it and that's a very healthy attitude to adopt. I don't mean to put anybody off trying. There's a huge sense of pride, achievement and satisfaction in creating your own book and pretty much anybody can do it. I just want to be honest with you right from the start. It's not easy. It can be hard work and sometimes frustrating when the words just won't come. The flip side is that when it all comes together, it's great! Creating Your Craft Ebook Well first, I suppose you're going to need something to put it all together. Something to type all those words into. Most word processors will do the trick and I guess Microsoft Word is going to be the one most people already have on their computer. If you use something else it's not a problem so long as it will perform two functions in addition to the actual typing. (1) It you must be able to add pictures and/or drawings. Some very basic word processors can't do this but mostly they can. If yours can't, you need to look at getting something else. I suppose it's possible to produce an ebook that is words only, but I would suggest that's not going to look so attractive to your potential readers. (2) You must be able to create a PDF from your finished file. PDF is the format created by Adobe Acrobat and the majority of people have the PDF reader on their PC already. Unfortunately the PDF reader can't actually create PDFs. To do this you need to invest in a copy of the full software, available at adobe.com, but it isn't cheap. Another alternative is to use an online PDF creator or other software you can download. If you do a search using Google, MSN or Yahoo for "PDF maker" you'll find loads - a lot of them free. I can't recommend one because I haven't tried them all but as most offer at least a free trial, spend some time trying a few until you find the one that works for you. Why PDF? Every book on the CraftBooksNow.com site is available in PDF format. It's by far the most common ebook format and it can be read by any computer. In fact virtually every new computer in the world has the reader software installed as standard. There are other book-creating software packages but typically they can only be read by a restricted number of programs - and why would you want to restrict your potential readers? Don't make life any more difficult for yourself than you have to - trust me, PDF is the way to go. Now what about the actual writing? Lots of people tell me they can't write - but it's just not true. If you can talk, you can write. Think about some of your favorite craft books. They're not dry, dusty old things, they're probably quite chatty - they're written as if the person is actually talking to you. So that's the way you should do it. You have to be careful not to sound patronizing, or childish, but if you picture trying to explain what you're doing to a good friend that should help you with the "tone" to adopt. Then there's the amount of detail you need to put in. This will depend on your target audience. Have a think about that for a minute. Who is your craft book aimed at? Is it a beginner's guide or is it for for people who you'd already expect to have a certain level of skill in your chosen craft? If you're writing for beginners you probably need to go into some depth about tools and materials but if you're writing for more experienced craftspeople you perhaps don't need to mention that. This is arguably the most important part of the creative process and it requires a good deal of thought. There are few successful craft books which appeal to everyone. "A Beginner's Guide" is not going to appeal to someone with years of experience and, conversely, "Advanced Tips and Techniques" is probably not going to appeal to beginners. So decide who your target audience is and be focussed about who you are writing for. If you've got information for both you can always write two books! What separates the great books from the not-so-great? The writing is important of course, but never underestimate presentation. If you flick through a book in your local bookstore which appeals more, the one that's technically accurate but the pages are all packed with closely spaced type, or the one with ample photos of the projects at different stages, useful illustrations explaining techniques, attractive photos of finished items? So get out your camera! Take the best pictures you can. If necessary, create some drawings or get someone to do them for you. They don't have to be works of art so long as they clearly explain what you need to get across. Always ask yourself if you think your target audience would understand it. Show it to a family member or friend to see if they understand it, and be prepared to take constructive criticism. It's not easy having someone tell you that what you've spent hours on doesn't make sense - I'm the world's worst - but bite your lip and listen to what other people have to say. Then leave it alone for a day or two and come back to it fresh, with a clear head, and examine what people have said without getting too personal about it. It's often difficult to do because it's your creation, your "baby", but people are almost invariably trying to help so see if you can look at things from their point of view. At the end of the day, if you still disagree with their comments, go your own way - you're the boss! Finally in this section, make sure you're not just regurgitating old material. You'll never be successful by just copying someone else's ideas. If you've got an original twist on an old idea, that's fine - that's creating something new and people will be interested to see it. If you're creating from scratch, so much the better. So it's finally finished. Some people write very quickly once they get the ideas together, some are slower. I know an author who took 18 months to put his first ebook together. However long it's taken you, it doesn't matter. It's not a race. The important thing is quality, OK? So you've finally got it all together, nice photos, explanatory drawings where necessary, you've spell checked it (twice) and you're ready to create your final PDF. Before you do there's one important final task. A cover. If you have some design flair - and many craftspeople do - then you can probably create your own. If in doubt, get it done professionally. Again, you can search the internet. Try "ebook cover" and you'll find a number of people who can help you. The point here is that like it or not the first impression you give is of huge importance. The content may be superb but if the cover is dull then your book will frequently get bypassed. There's a lot of competition and you want to be out there in front. If you're not sure what I mean, have a look through the CraftBooksNow.com website and look at the all the different covers there. Which one's attract your eye? Don't forget to give some thought to the title. Which sounds more interesting "50 Knitting Patterns" or "Haute-Couture Secrets - 50 stylish new knitting designs"? Get a bit creative, add a bit of excitement or exclusivity! Done? Great - give yourself a pat on the back. Have a glass of something to celebrate. You probably feel very pleased with yourself - and you should. A lot of people talk about it but never put the hard work in. You've actually gone ahead and done it. Trouble is, at this point only you and maybe a coupe of friends know about it and while getting rich probably wasn't your motivation it would be nice to get some reward for effort, wouldn't it! So now we've got to get onto the selling bit. Selling your ebook online Now you can call it "promotion" or "marketing" or whatever you like, but you want someone to part with money in exchange for your ebook so as far as I'm concerned, that's selling. And it's not anything anyone should be afraid of. Chances are that many of you attend craft fairs and shows where you sell your work anyway, so you'll be used to selling at "the sharp end" - customer-facing sales is the most difficult of all - but if you believe in what you're selling it's much easier, isn't it? The good news with selling your ebook is that it's much easier. You have the ability to sell to people all over the world, at any time of the day or night, and have your ebook automatically delivered. All you have to do is check your account in the morning to see how much money you made! OK - maybe you won't make a fortune, but one of our ebook authors consistently averages $30.00 to $50.00 per week. Not a huge amount, but that is every week. Having put in the necessary work at the start he now does nothing to maintain it - but the sales keep coming in. It's not a fortune, but it is an extra holiday each year and he's now working on another book so who knows where it might lead? So what about the detail? Well you need a website and you need a domain name. There are hundreds of places to go to get these, we use and are happy to recommend Hostgator. Don't go for free webspace, it's just unprofessional. You need a name like www.greatestknittingbookever.com (or whatever is appropriate to your ebook) not www.myfreespace.somewhere.com/freespace/greatestknittingbookever.html Once you've got your webspace sorted you have to write your site - with just as much care as you wrote your ebook. This is your shop window on the world and you only have one chance to make a first impression! There's no need to re-invent the wheel though. You should never copy someone else's site, but get on over to www.clickbank.com and search their Marketplace for ideas. Don't just look for craft books but look at different subjects and see the way the sites have been put together. There are quite a few basic similarities - a catchy headline, some explanation of the features and benefits and then the offer. So many sites look quite similar because they work! Add your own personality, of course, but look carefully at what other people are doing. There are too many things to go into here but think about the advantages of maybe giving a bonus, or a free sample. Study the sites in detail and see if you can work out what makes one more attractive than another. Finally, still at clickbank.com, set yourself up with an account. Whilst there are dozens of ways to sell online, this is, in my opinion, the easiest and most cost effective. Follow Clickbank's instructions, which are fairly straight-forward, and they'll deal with all the credit card processing for your customers and simply send you a check. Have a good read of the site to make sure you understand their service and don't forget to check out the "affiliates" offering - you can even get other people to sell your ebook for you! I'm really only able to cover the very briefest detail here of selling online, but if you read and understand the Clickbank site it really is all you need to do to get started. It may not be the cheapest system but it's easy and it takes away all the hassle, leaving you to get on with your craft - or your next craft book. Selling a paperback or hard cover version. It's tempting to wonder about selling a "real" copy of your book, and at some point you're almost certain to be asked if you have one available. Producing them is beyond the scope of this article except to say that once again I'd put something like "print on demand" into a search engine. Be warned though, you're looking at considerable expense. One system I do know of - although I've never used - is available at cafepress.com. They offer a number of formats but only black and white contents, not color. Personally, I'm sticking with ebooks - much less hassle (and much higher profit margins). What Is Genuine Organic Skincare

By Chrissy Birdsall There are many wonderful, holistic reasons for choosing organic skincare products. The reasons range from wanting to reduce the number of chemicals on your skin, for your health, skin sensitivity or just based on personal principals.
The problem facing most consumers wanting to purchase genuine organic skincare products, rather than those making organic claims, is that a standard for the certification and labelling of organic skincare products is not available. Currently in Australia, the only organic certification available for skin care products is a general food standard. This requires 95% of all ingredients, other than the water component, to be organically certified. Water generally makes up to 70% of total ingredients in many skincare creams. Therefore 95% of the remaining 30% of ingredients need to be organically certified. Only a few Australian products have been certified to these very strict and sometimes impractical rules for food standards. It has been argued by some manufacturers, that to achieve the 95% certified rating is counter productive to producing an effective skin product.
Currently unrecognised are many skincare products with over 50% organic ingredients which cannot be certified, even though they have been manufactured by passionate organic supporters to the highest organic and natural principles. Essentially, to make a cream for skin, there are two main components (oil and water) which need to be blended. A synthetic emulsifier is used to blend the oil and water components. Emulsifiers can make up to 20% of an ingredient mix other than water. Hence the catch 22, to make a cream which really penetrates and moisturises the deep layers of the skin with beautiful organic vegetable and essential oils, you need a synthetic emulsifier. Purestuf uses an emulsifier created from olive oil which is synthesised to form the emulsifier. The cream also requires a preservative, so that it will not go mouldy in your bathroom cabinet. This is one area which really distinguishes skincare products. The organically passionate manufacturers use natural preservatives like grapefruit seed extract whereas other manufacturers add chemical preservatives containing parabens and other nasties to their products.
Organic skincare products produced and sold with integrity by the passionate manufacturers aim to be free from chemicals such as parabens, formaldehyde, petrochemicals etc. and made from as many natural and certified organic ingredients as possible. Australian (and most overseas) manufacturers are not compelled to disclose the percentage of organic ingredients in their products. The word organic is not protected by any law about its use in terms of marketing claims. Often these other so called organic products, contain a very low percentage of organic ingredients and have many chemical additives, which are not good for you or your skin. So what is being done to eliminate the confusion?
A group of leading Australian skincare product manufacturers (including Purestuf Natural Skincare) are currently working together to formulate a standard which can be certified by any one of the 7 Australian organic certifiers. Until then read labels and look for products which dont include parabens, petrochemicals, sulphates, fragrances and clearly list the organic ingredients such as essential oils, vegetable oils.
For the time being, for consumers it is a matter of instinct, trust and reading the labels. Chrissy Birdsall is a renowned beauty and skincare authority, with over 40 years industry experience. Artificial Flowers - From Hell

By Morgan Hamilton My neighbor is totally devoid of any artistic sense. The materials he chooses for his yard decoration are totally baffling. Even though his yard is neat and well maintained, the decorations he placed there will appall anyone. He fancies using artificial flowers in his decorations but the result of his labor always looked like a product of some demented scientific experiment. You would think that he would be an excellent horror set designer for Hollywood. Year after year I have to suffer from the awful designs that he sets up in his yard. He is fond of making sprawling flower beds out of artificial flowers. The problem is, he doesnt bother to make them look as though theyre genuine. As a result the flower blooms he makes every spring are out of control and the greenery in his yard is always much too green. The colors he picks for his artificial flower designs are those that are never found in nature like neon green, and fluorescent pink, which gives you the feeling that youre dreaming every time you happen to gaze out into his yard. His aesthetic preference makes you wonder if he is color blind, or is suffering from some rare type of eye disease. He loves artificial stuff so much that I wouldnt be surprised if he replaces his lawn with Astroturf. I used to be fond of using artificial flowers myself, but after seeing my neighbors yard I never touched them again. He even goes further by loading countless planters full with brightly colored plastic blooms. This year he has out done himself by placing window boxes outside of his shed and loading them up with hideous, artificial flowers. He hung curtains in the windows of his shed making you wonder if he also has a tiny plastic family behind the glass window, living happily in their plastic artificial world complete with artificial flowers and turf. If ever that yard burn and all those repulsive decorations goes up in flames, the smell of plastic would saturate the atmosphere for a decade and would greatly increase the worlds global warming woes. Morgan Hamilton offers expert advice and great tips regarding all aspects concerning Artificial Flowers. Visit our site for more helpful information about Artificial Flowers and other similar topics. Depression And Personal Fights

By Justin Meyer Friends, especially boyfriends and girlfriends, fight. It is natural. It doesnt necessarily mean that there is a problem with the relationship, it means that there is a disagreement. However, it can cause you to get upset and bring you down. There are a few tricks that can prevent that. But before we get to that point, there are a few things that you need to do or not do as the case may be. Firstly, dont let any fights bring you too low. Fights are not inherently bad, they can, in fact, strengthen a relationship. However, do not say or do things after a fight that you might later regret. It is very easy to end a relationship because of a fight, but that is a mistake. Decisions should not be made while angry. To deal with the fight, take a few breaths. It might be useful to take a short walk or drive. Get out of the house, find something to take your mind off of what happened. It is natural to feel upset after the fight, to feel like you are sinking lower in your depression. The worst thing to do is to decide that this is your mood. You will rebound. Fights, and the causes thereof, are temporary. It is likely that you will feel like things are getting worse, but they are not. In order to keep your mood high, do not let yourself read too much into what a fight means. Big Brother Will Be Able to Watch Everything

By Anja Merret I am finally reading the Sunday paper dated March 11, 2007. It's a few days late. And in the business and money section an article really jumped out at me screaming Big Brother. It said Cashless society by 2012?" the Visa Chief is being quoted. The story can be found at the Independent Online. The predictions that there would be a cashless society, have been around for a while of course. Famously they have always been part of science fiction stories. Science fiction stories talk about the time in the faraway future, where people will have a number tattooed onto their arm and that becomes the identifier for everything, money included. Money has been represented by shells, coins, notes, stones, tokens, necklaces, etc in the past. Now it is going towards plastic only, with the plan that actual cash should be fazed out by 2012. This particular thought really scares me. And it is probably a surprise that this could be scary. However, a fair amount of the informal economy runs on cash only. That is, cheap labour which is often performed by illegal immigrants, gets paid in cash. People whose earnings are limited, might not want to put their money into a bank for fear of loosing it, or because they live from day to day. Often it is also because their meagre earnings get reduced by bank charges. It also means that now the authorities, read Inland Revenue Services, will be able to track every single cent that anybody ever earns or receives. This includes the home craft item somebody might sell at a market to augment their income or the extra work somebody does to augment a small state pension. If that income is discovered they might loose a pension, which they cant actually live on, hence the extra bit of work they perform. But that is not really the main issue here. I am not against the fact that we need to pay fair taxes, at least not in this article. It is more the fact that with this move the authorities will be able to track everything you do, from buying a hotdog to using a public toilet where you need to insert a coin, now of course swipe a card. Every move you will make that involves money, and most everything in life regrettably does cost money now, would now be trackable. Big brother will be able to follow every step you take. And dont for one moment think that Inland Revenue Service doesnt have access to the banking details and transactions of its registered tax paying subjects. Thats what is so scary. She started as a high school teacher, changed professions to become an admin manager at her late husbands law firm because this allowed her the flexibility to look after her small children at the time. How to Stave Off Plastic Surgery Naturally and Attain a Younger Face

By Cynthia Rowland The world has seen great strides in medical miracles, technology and anti-aging. We see cutting edge conveniences everywhere as we live keep-up-to-date lives that have altered who we are. We have cell phones that provide us with on-the-go communication as we download movies, music and news. Never in the history of our world have we been so closely connected as we further rely on the internet to bring us information, news, sports scores and more in real time its all readily available at our fingertips. Preventing maladies and protecting our health has become everyday news. Anyone who reads, listens to radio and watches television knows that exercise and diet are vitally important to our good health; we choose our foods wisely and know that exercise improves not only our waistlines but also our blood pressure, blood serums and it keeps dis-ease at bay. People seem to easily live healthfully into their 70s, 80s and 90s. Options for living longer means one can easily replace knees, hips, even elbows if they wear out; hearts and lungs and other organs are transplanted plus there are many, many drug and vitamin supplements that work to keep us vitally alive We live in a youth obsessed world. We dont want to feel old or look old; we want to look like the airbrushed models we see in magazines, billboards and television. Aging can be a painful experience as we look in the mirror and see an older face staring back at us. How and when did this happen? Little by little facial muscles begin to lose their vitality. This loss of vitality produces noticeable sagging over time as the muscles elongate; this action drags the skin downward making one look tired, out of shape and old. One might see down turned mouth corners, a flabby neck or a lined forehead develop practically overnight. Aging in the face can alter our lives as we lose confidence in our appearance. One option to turn back the clock is plastic surgery; it has certainly become mainstream and affordable but surgery has inherent risks such as anesthesia complications, loss of sensation, risk of infection and less than stellar results sometimes occur. Taking unnecessary financial risks and risking ones health to attain youthfulness is a very steep investment that one should carefully consider. Another aspect of having a surgical face procedure is that muscles continue to atrophy, pulling the skin downward. Unfortunately, surgery does not stave off the aging process; procedures just mask the symptoms and the muscles continue to weaken due to inactivity. Surgical face lifts may be repeated and little nips and tucks performed periodically to freshen the lift; again, more risk for the patient. Injections of filler materials have become so popular, one shouldnt be surprised to find them popping up in every airport kiosk. Botox and Restylane and Collagen are the darlings of the many available injections but they, too, only mask aging in the face. The results from these injections are temporary and must be repeated several times per year to counteract further muscle elongation. What if one wants to proceed naturally? Is there a way to look revitalized when you dont want to spend money or risk your health to look younger and fresher? There are those weeds and seeds - people who prefer everything organic and natural to achieve better health and they would never consider plastic surgery, rather you will find them seeking the latest information from their trusted naturopath and exploring other techniques that are proven and safe. One easy way to a non-surgical, non-invasive face lift is to practice isometric facial exercise. This is a natural way to revitalize the facial muscles and yet look at least ten to fifteen years younger in just a few weeks. Isometric movements along with resistance techniques make a huge difference when you exercise your body; the same type of exercise will lift, tone and tighten the facial muscles. You will look healthier and younger as you laugh all the way to the bank. Cynthia Rowland, Anti-aging Expert

After the Affair - Part 2

By Michael Hadfield What is left? The deed has been discovered. The deceit is out in the open. The affair is, maybe, over. What next? Stay or go? Attempt to repair the damage, or start a new life alone? One of the difficulties of this time is the challenge of being able to think clearly. As soon as thoughts return to the state of the relationship, the emotions kick in and clarity falls by the wayside. There is of course the past the good times, the memories, the gifts, the children, the mementoes, the accumulations of the passage through time of two people and all they collect together. Is it worth throwing THAT all away for a moment, or a year, or two, of madness and indiscretion. After all he's weak-minded, the temptation was there, she threw herself at him what else could you expect to happen. And there's the future the growing old together, the holidays and adventures and romance still imagined the kids growing up, the grandchildren why sacrifice all of those dreams, after all he says he's sorry and it won't happen again? And there's the present the shame, having to endure those sympathetic looks, the sudden silences when you walk into a room, going shopping with the whole world knowing you failed to keep your man. None of that matters. That doesn't mean that those things aren't important to you. If something is important to you then it is important. But just because something is important doesn't mean it matters. What matters is you feeling okay about yourself and your world as soon as possible. You have choices to make and you don't know what to do for the best. You've been betrayed and you want to believe it won't happen again but 5 or 10 years ago you'd have heard it would never happen ever. The mistake is to believe that you can make a wrong decision. You can make decisions that don't bring about what you want. After all you did make a choice to enter into a long-term agreement with your partner wanting long-term happiness together didn't you? So you make choices based on the idea that the choice will bring you what you want. The difficulty here is that you haven't decided what you want. So that's a priority here. You have to decide what you want. One of the difficulties that some women encounter is knowing what they want. This is difficult because many many women spend their lives giving themselves away. They give themselves body and soul to their partners, they give themselves to their children, they end up responsible for the care of elderly parents and maybe other aging, isolated relatives, but they very rarely give as much care to themselves as they do to others. This is wonderful. There is nothing nicer than having someone care for you in a loving way when you need someone to do that. But what happens in the mind of someone who is always looking after the needs of others is that they neglect themselves. I'm not talking here of appearance, or nutrition, I'm talking about feeling as if life is fulfilling; feeling important; feeling as if you are valued and appreciated. Because of this the decision as to what exactly you do want, right now, at this very difficult moment in your life, can seem beyond your ability to make. The very act of thinking about you and your needs immediately brings on associated thoughts of how this choice will affect the children, the parents, the friends, the partner and so on. And there is this huge and very loving desire to minimise the hurt to anyone else, even if that means sacrificing yourself. So your first choice is to decide whether or not you're ok with continuing to sacrifice yourself and your needs and put others first. If you are ok with that then the problem is solved. Just do whatever your partner wants you to do. Do whatever it takes to minimise the impact on family members. If you totally and genuinely make this choice you will be okay because you have decided to have no needs and no desires and no wants and that will make your life very simple. If you make this choice because it avoids making any other then you will not be okay. If you have made the choice not to sacrifice yourself any longer, and to live a life that feels fulfilling, then you are ready for the next step. Michael J. 45 Years of Memories and How I Organized Them - Quick and Easy and oh, so Wonderfully!

By Cheri Moseley After 45 years of pictures, I finally got an album of my OWN LIFE done. I had tons of photos and made one for each of my siblings (3) but never got to my own life. By then, I just wanted to get it done and have it before something went wrong and I never got to do it. So I gathered all my photos, black and whites too and got started! There are photos that go with this article, but to see them you will have to go to my web page - see the link in my signature line! How Did I Organize 100's Of Photos From 45 Years?
Well, it was actually pretty easy. I chose to organize them according to the HOUSE we lived in. We moved around alot and I remember the house and the schools I went to for the time periods. For instance, I remember going to Sierra Vista Elementary School when I lived in Fullerton and I was in 4th and 5th grade. The year? Didn't remember most of the time. We did alot of camping and long camp trips - the year? Don't remember but I certainly did remember the trip and things that happened. Holidays? Again, no year, but look at all of us in the photo...remember about that present or that tree or...... This one shows my years in first and second grade and my memories on the page in the middle and if you turn the middle journaled page, there are more photos on the 3rd page How Did I Manage The Memories?
That is one thing that is hard to do - you go through life and think "That was so wonderful, I'll never forget that!". Well, unfortunately, you do forget over time. I looked at the photos and some I could remember and some I couldn't. We are talking 45 years ago here! So instead of trying to make a memory for each photo, and since there were alot of memories I had and some had photos and some didn't, I decided to journal ALL that I could remember about the time period of each set of photos ! By that I mean, I just sat down and brain-stormed about the "house" or "school" time. Not only things that I remember about myself, but also about my siblings, the house, the school, friends, places we went, holidays at the time - anything I could remember for that period of time. Many of these layouts are 4 page spreads with the journaling as the middle page How I Organized It
After my brain storm of memories (few tears and smiles included there!) I went back and I grouped several memories about similar events or times. I put all the memories about my siblings together, then about my friends. Just organized it into a bit of EVENT sequence. I even did one layout showing each house I lived in and the address and something about each house!! This is time spent with my grand parents and what I remember about those 2 wonderful people and that wonderful house grandpa built with his own hands! It is a 4 page spread with journaling and photos on all pages. Then I Just Made It Look Nice!
I found a fun font and use a color ink and printed it out on cardstock. Depending on how many memories I had, some pages were 8x10 fully, others were only half a page long. I decorated with stickers and put it in a page protector. The ones that were half a page long, I just cut down the page protector to match the half page. It might not be this great and wonderful chronologically specific scrapbook, but it does have my memories and that is what really matters. Actually the AGE or YEAR isn't the topic of the memory, it is the EVENT and what happened that you are wanting to remember, not really how old you were or what year it was. I look at this album often. It is nice to just remember. http://scrapbook-layout-ideas.blogspot.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Cheri_Moseley http://EzineArticles.com/?45-Years-of-Memories-and-How-I-Organized-Them---Quick-and-Easy-and-oh,-so-Wonderfully!&id=270892 us online pharmacy phentermine

deliver the good news regardless of where the client may be.
This is a wonderful example of image marketing. These ads make
evoke a feeling of trust. The message; RE/MAX goes all out to

tools that evoke an emotion. Using postcards to deliver your
message is one of the most affordable ways in which you can use

use them because they get results. What are Image Smarter Post Cards? Image smarter postcards are high gloss, laminated, full color
postcards, printed on high quality card stock which relay a

instantaneous! No need for the recipient to have to open an envelope. Your
message is right there in front of her nose. Both sides of the
postcard contain a call to action and both sides are readily
available. Image Is Important. First impressions mean everything in the business world. Add to
this the importance of standing out from your competition and you

Weight Control Program Tips: Lose Weight Safely

By David Arnold Livingston Losing weight is one of the major health concerns
nowadays. That is why more and more people have been
painstakingly involved in various weight control
programs to lose a few pounds. However it can only lead
to depression if the program does not suit its purpose.
It is because these programs often cause misconceptions
that build up high hopes, which can even add up or be
the factor that can cause further weight gain if the
chosen weight control program is not suited for the
individual. Some people want to lose weight fast which
in reality is difficult since it may take a few months
before the body adjusts to the new diet intake. There
are several weight control programs. Some can help.
Some make matters worse. To serve as a guide in
choosing the right weight control program, the
following information and tips can be of great help. Successful weight control programs usually start on
instilling a positive attitude towards weight gain. One
may lose the desired pounds but he can once again go
back to the old habits of diet and can once again
regain the lost weight. Losing weight can be easily
done if the mind is in total in control of the body.
Successful people who obtained the desired weight used
positive mental attitude and optimum self-control to
push through the difficulties and temptations that can
interfere with the chosen weight control program.
Weight control is not only meant to get the curvy
figures shown in ads and magazines. It is also meant
to avoid the danger of several diseases that can
abruptly end one's life. These diseases may include
hypertension or high blood pressure, cardiovascular
diseases, gallbladder disease, diabetes,
osteoarthritis, respiratory problems and other forms of
cancer. In choosing the right type of weight control program,
safety must be of utmost consideration. The diet must
not just be trimmed down but it must also include the
nutrients needed by the body to keep on going. The
recommended daily allowance must be there including
minerals, vitamins and proteins. The diet must have
less calories and fats which can be 30% of the total
daily calories content of regular meals. Skipping of
meals is not advisable since it can only create more
cravings which can again add up to the overall weight.
Food types that are high in fiber must always be on
stock since it can be of great help in the chosen
weight control program. These types of food may include
vegetables, whole grain breads, cereals and fruits. Low
calorie raw vegetables are also preferred. Keeping a
list of the food or juice taken can help the individual
to assess the eating habit so as to make the necessary
changes needed for successful weight control. Commercial weight control programs can also be chosen
but be sure to have access to the vital information to
be considered such as the fees and costs involved. The
dietary supplements or the types of food to be taken
must not have any negative effects on the metabolism of
the individual. Some diet supplements may cause
allergies and other side effects which can endanger the
health or the overall well-being of the individual.
The maintenance of weight is considered as the most
difficult stage since there must be constant and
persistent applications of what should be done. David Arnold Livingston is an advocate for great health and shares resources at:

Make a Fiberglass Support Cover for Your New Silicone Mold

By Delmar Germyn Just like when you made your silicone mold this is another messy little job. There are gloves for fiberglass work so you should get a pair or two. Wear old cloths, the resin will never wash out. You should get some thinner to clean your hands with - the gloves will help a lot but you will end up with some on your hands no matter how careful you are. By now you are probably wondering if you want to make your own mold. When your first concrete or hypertufa casting comes out you will know. It is a great feeling to see the results of all the work you did and you may decide it was worth it. That is when you should start planning your next project. Go to a place that sells fiberglass - you can find them in the Yellow pages - to get the materials you will need and be sure to get extra, you don't want to run out once you have started. You can estimate the amount of roving by wrapping your mold in a piece of cloth and then measuring the cloth to see how many square feet it is. The fiberglass supply guys should be able to give you an estimate of how much resin and hardener you will need if they know how much roving you are going to use. Don't forget to tell them you will be doing 3 layers. There will be a layer of fleece and two layers of roving. Buy roving, not cloth. The cloth is for jobs where you need high strength. You will not need it for your cover. You will also need three or four 2 inch paint brushes. On the way home stop at a fabric store and buy enough of that stretchy fleece to cover your mold. Now we begin... Cut the fleece so that it fits the mold fairly well. If you want you can glue the fleece onto itself with fabric cement here and there. This is not usually necessary but you may have to. Now mix the resin and hardener - be sure to follow the instructions exactly - and paint it onto the fleece. Soak the fleece and push it up as tight as you can to the rubber mold. Try not to have any air pockets between it and the silicone mold. While you wait for this to harden you can cut your roving into strips one or two inches wide and about a foot long. I don't make the any bigger than this because it makes them to hard to use. Lay them out somewhere handy and if the fleece has hardened you can start the second step. This is the real messy part. Paint some mixed resin onto the fleece and pick up a strip of roving. Put the strip onto the fresh wet resin and smooth it out as best you can, but don't worry if it is not perfect. You are doing this for strength, not beauty. Repeat this until your mold is covered with a layer of roving. You will need to work quickly here so you finish before the resin starts to set. If it starts to set throw it away, you will have to mix more. You cannot use it once it has started to harden, don't even try. Now that you have a layer of roving on you can paint it with some more resin and build up at least one more layer and cover with a coat of resin. Let this all set up and there it is. The ugliest looking mold on Earth. But inside lies a thing of beauty. If you have done a good job it will last for many, many pours and some beautiful concrete and hypertufa pieces will come out of it. Go ahead and make one! Who knows, you may be one of the rare people who actually enjoy doing this. Once you have it done I'm sure you will enjoy using it and will be something that you can be very proud of. An old time Seer, I have been around this Planet for 2.34 centuries. I used to travel with my dragon to fairs and teach gardening skills. I did a lot of work in the UK a couple of hundred years ago. It was me who got Queen Mary interested in Hypertufa. The old gal really liked making her own planters and statues. She even made a couple of bird baths that are still there today. Now, thanks to the Internet I can stay at my home in the new world with my wife and dog and dispense my knowledge without the hassles of passports and taxis to and from the airport. Low Carb Diets For Teens

By Eddie Tobey Carbohydrates are an important food, a source of fuel and energy required by the body for doing work. It is obtained from dairy products such as grains, fruits and vegetables. Extra carbs are stored as glycogen in the muscles and the liver. There are two types of carbohydrates or "carbs" as they are frequently called, namely, simple and complex carbs. Carbs are categorized on the basis of the time taken to digest them. Simple carbs are easily digestible whereas complex carbs take longer to digest. Carbs are essential during the growing years of teens. However, carbs taken in excess could have an adverse impact on health and make an individual put on weight. Dieticians typically recommend low carb diets for obese teens. Teens who are living a sedentary lifestyle with minimal exercise do not burn up the extra calories obtained from carbs. It is advisable to take small portions of food frequently to maintain energy levels rather than actually cutting down or completely eliminating carbs from diet. It is healthier to include complex carbs such as vegetables and whole grains than simple sugars. A low carb diet regime should be followed by teens only if a medical practitioner or a professional dietician prescribes it. It is not advisable to get lured by advertisements that promote low carb foods to effect weight loss. While low carb diets can result in weight loss, it is usually temporary and after the diet is discontinued, the individual gains back the lost weight. This can be harmful to teenagers if their body becomes deficient in the essential nutrients associated with carbs. Usually, teens combine low carb diets with high protein diets that are very high in fat content. Extra energy is required to digest the proteins and the kidney may be affected in the long-term due to overwork. There are medical cases to prove that low carb diets can be risky for teens in other ways such as when the excess proteins use up calcium from the body and stunt the person's growth during these developmental years. 2 Basic Laws of Weight Loss

By Donovan Baldwin Here's a little statement I've made before in various forms and forums. Effective, lifelong weight loss is simple...not easy, just simple. Everyone is seeking the ultimate weight loss secret. However, the "weight loss secret" has been known for years. Simply stated, if you take in more calories than you use, you gain weight. If you use more calories than you take in, you lose weight. In their attempts to wiggle around those two simple facts, people have discovered that some foods, and some diet products, are effective in "helping" you cut down on the calories; and they have found lifestyles, and diet products, that "help" you burn more calories, but two simple laws have remained for healthy, effective, lifelong weight loss and weight management. 1. Get regular, moderate exercise 2. Regularly eat tasteful, nutritionally satisfying foods in reasonable quantities. Do those two things, and your body will automatically adjust itself to a healthier, leaner, more fit state of existence. Are there other things you can do to help the process along? Of course there are. Drink more water, get more sleep, serve meals on smaller plates, eat more slowly...and so on. All these things and many other tips help the weight loss process, but, in the final analysis, it all comes down to those two rules up there. Now, I said that if you do those two things, your body will automatically adjust itself to a healthier, leaner level. Unfortunately, since we are all different...in upbringing, in ethnicity, in learned habits, in likes and dislikes, in daily lifestyle, in metabolism, and in so many other ways, a perfect weight loss program for one person may seem to be not very effective for another. Also, since we may attack our weight loss problem with a different intensity or attitude or expectation, what we perceive as "being effective" may not satisfy our neighbor...or may seem miraculous to him or her. In the absence of individual coaching from a personal fitness trainer, and a trained dietician to prepare our meals, some of our actions in the areas of nutrition and exercise are going to be a little hit and miss. Add into that mix the process by which most of us go about our daily lives...staying up too late, rushing around to get all our obligations (real and imaginary) properly discharged, eating unhealthy food in a state of stress and on the go...and from a point of ignorance...and there is no surprise at that statement I made about weight loss being simple, but not necessarily easy. All that being said, however, most of us can easily make regular attempts to meet the requirements of the two laws I outlined above. We can easily find ways to insert more activity, both planned and opportunistic, into our lives, and we can exercise more control over the food we put in our mouths. A great knowledge of physiology and the science of exercise is not necessary, nor is it a requirement that we be extremely knowledgeable in the science of nutrition either. Most of us are perfectly aware that a five, ten, or fifteen minute walk is probably better for us than sitting in front of a TV watching a completely mindless show. Okay, I confess, I watch "Everybody Loves Raymond" regularly. Hmmm! Why does my wife keep calling me Frank? Anyway, we all understand that a few minutes of yard work is better for us than raiding the fridge for another beer or that other piece of pie. We also know that if we have to slip into the kitchen for something to munch, a handful of nuts or an apple is probably going to be better for us than that piece of pie. Doing the healthy things from day to day is what will help us live up to the two laws I have mentioned. Would we be able to more effectively exercise with a little more knowledge and training on the subject? Of course. Would we be able to more effectively take control of our dietary and nutritional lifestyle with a bit more information? Of course we would. If we have more knowledge about exercise and nutrition, will we be better able to make that weight loss plan of ours more effective? Without a doubt. There is nothing stopping anyone from learning and applying knowledge about exercise and nutrition. No one needs to learn all the knowledge of the fitness trainer or the dietician. A simple, basic understanding of the two fields will suffice in most cases. I would like to make one last point. In both of the two laws I mentioned above, the words "regular" and "regularly" appear. In terms of weight loss, fitness, and health, what you do today is not worth a hill of beans unless it is tied to events either before or after it. To go out and walk a mile today is a good thing, of course, but in terms of weight loss, health, and fitness, it will be a habit of walking a mile a day several days a week, over many weeks which will eventually result in the change you and I are seeking. A good side to this is the empowering knowledge that a slip in our program today is not going to matter that much as long as we get back into the swing of things as soon as possible. If you are exercising regularly and eating properly, a piece of pie at a friend's house, a dish of ice cream at a birthday party, just one more piece of that delicious pot roast will not destroy all that you are attempting to accomplish...just don't let it happen too often. What the heck! Isn't the purpose of a healthy lifestyle the idea of being able to enjoy life? Donovan Baldwin is a Texas writer and a University of West Florida alumnus. Saundra's Apologetic Q & A Notes: #1

By Saundra L. Washington Key Defenders of the Faith terminologies, views, thoughts and arguments in question and answer format. What is evidentialism? - Evidentialism is a method of defending the faith and defeating the non-Christian system of thought by facts and evidences drawn from science (history), reason, and personal experience. It seeks to destroy non-Christian concepts by arguing from evidences. It is based on historical events and facts that only the Bible can interpret. It primarily addresses biblical issues. What is presuppositialism? - Some apologists defend Christianity by arguing from presuppositions. Presuppositionalism attempts to destroy non-Christian presuppositions by proving them inconsistent, irrational, unlivable and so forth. It focuses on ones entire world view and the effect it has on practical everyday living. Presupposionalists want to show Christianity is superior to other world views and is the only one that meets all the tests of a valid system. What method does Schaffer use to defend the faith? - Schaffers method of defending the faith is by attacking the non-Christians presuppositions and pushing them to the logical conclusion of their system of thought. He hopes that by challenging the non-Christian to be consistent with their world view, they will come to realize that they are not living in the real world; that they live one way in theory but live another way in practice. To Schaffer, this is not the real world and is unlivable. Consistent living is that which one can live practically with ones theory without fear of contradiction. What is rationalism? - Rationalism is a broad doctrine usually used to designate the type of epistemological position of rationalists. It, more of less, defines truth as that which can be known only through human reason. Rationalists believe there are certain basic principles in the world which are recognized as true (a priori truth) by reason of man and from these truths man can acquire a deductive knowledge of the world and God. What is Irenaean Theodicys approach to the problem of evil? This is a rational approach to vindicating the goodness of God in respect to the existence of evil. It perceives evil as an ingredient for soul strengthening. In a sense, evil is considered beneficial in so far as it is seen as God trying to develop something worthwhile in us. The most striking problem seen with Irenaean theodicy is that it seems to neglect or address disteleological (antiteleological) events. What is the problem with evil? - The problem with evil is that it presents an eternal conflict with mans biblical concept of God. God is perceived as the embodiment of all that is good, righteous, loving, just and meaningful. Yet, there is so much that is pointless in this world; so much meaningless suffering and senseless evil. Can God be the Holy God of Scripture and permit all the wickedness in the world to exist? This is the eternal contradiction and the problem with evil. How does Van Til view the autonomous motive as being in dialectic tension? - According to Van Til, the non-Christian views himself as being absolutely autonomous. But, autonomy presupposes complete control and freedom. Yet, the non-Christian must obey rules and laws and there are many things over which he has no control. I believe this is the tension Van Til speaks of. Man cannot truly be free apart from God; and if man cannot truly control and truly be free, then neither can he be truly autonomous. It is impossible to be autonomous because facts reveal the will of God but non-Christians willfully reject the facts, even though deep down they know them to be true. What is the cosmological argument? - The cosmological argument is an argument from CAUSE for the existence of God. It is a deductive argument with premises that suggest that every effect demands a cause. An infinite regress is not possible because regardless of how long the chain of causes, there must be a first cause that was uncaused that would explain all subsequent causes. The first uncaused cause is God. What is the teleological argument? - The teleological argument is a deductive argument with an a posteriori first premise that attempts to prove the existence of God from external evidences. The universe manifests evidence of design. All design demands a designer. Therefore, there must be a designer of the universe. This designer is God of the Bible. What is the ontological argument? - The ontological argument is a deductive argument with an a priori first premise. Everyone can conceive of God. God is that being greater than which cannot be conceived because a greater God can be conceived. A non-existent God is not greater than that which cannot be conceived. Therefore, God exists. Massachusetts DUI Attorneys

By Eddie Tobey DUI laws in the United States differ from state to state. This is one of the major reasons as to why one should hire a local DUI lawyer to handle a DUI case. Lawyers who specialize in DUI cases relating to a specific state, like Massachusetts for example, know the various legal loopholes and procedures that can be taken advantage of. They also know the various enforcement and judicial practices that are unconstitutional and violate the right of motorists. These attorneys will also be well versed with the states different sobriety tests and their various accuracy levels. Most Massachusetts DUI attorneys offer free consultation services that relate to specific legal advice pertaining to the circumstances of the case being fought as well as answers to any questions the defendant may have. All this can either be done at a meeting or a telephonic conference. Most Massachusetts DUI attorneys have no obligation first meetings with the defendants to apprise themselves of what the case is all about. These attorneys will help the defendant understand how the courts work and the various court systems function. They are also obligated to use all the resources at their disposal, their ingenuity, as well as various tricks they may have picked up during their years of practice to help defend a case. In certain cases, they can go so far as to help impeach the arresting police officers testimony. Experience in fighting DUI cases is a major factor to look into when selecting a DUI attorney. Experienced lawyers know the various options and loopholes in the legal system and can take full advantage of them to help the defendant keep his freedom as well as his license. Inexperienced lawyers may miss certain important rights and legal options that may be crucial in deciding the outcome of the case. If the defendant decides to make a peaceful settlement, then the attorney is also in a very good position to advise the defendant as to how to proceed and how to minimize the damage that peaceful settlements can sometimes cause. Massachusetts DUI provides detailed information on Massachusetts DUI, Massachusetts DUI Arrests, Massachusetts DUI Attorneys, Massachusetts DUI Defense and more. Anniversary Gifts - Tenth Anniversary

By Michael Russell You've finally made it. The big one-oh. Ten years of wedded bliss and you finally get the chance to give your spouse a really great anniversary gift. So what do they throw at you for the traditional options? Tin and Aluminum. No, that is not a typo and you're not being punked. You're probably wondering who the joker is who thought these up. Well, don't bother trying to find out. Whoever it is has left people scratching their heads for centuries trying to understand how such an important anniversary can have such jokes for gifts. Fortunately, the modern day gift idea is a lot better. We'll cover both of these in this article. Okay, maybe the traditional gift ideas are a bit odd but believe it or not, you can actually come up with a few okay ideas if you just use a little imagination. For starters, you can get your spouse some jewelry made out of tin. She or he will certainly be surprised. If you want to be a little more serious you can get your spouse an aluminum watch. Yes, believe it or not, they do make these. You just have to know where to look. Go to about.com and you'll find a few places. This is a little sneaky, but many of the more exotic teas and coffees come in tin or aluminum cans. So you can run on down to your specialty coffee house and pick up a couple of cans. Technically, it's still within the parameters of the traditional gift idea. After the tea or coffee is gone you can always use the can for holding pencils. Another sneaky thing you can do is look for a puzzle or game that comes in a tin or aluminum can. There are actually quite a few of these today including a very unique Monopoly set that comes in a large square tin can. Something that is a little more common, is an aluminum or tin jewelry box. If you want to really surprise your spouse, you can get some jewelry to put inside the box. If he or she complains that it's not part of the allowed gifts you simply say that the jewelry came with the box. You might get some dirty looks but you're sure to get a smile afterwards. If you want to be a little more practical, you can always get some aluminum tableware. It may not be terribly romantic, but sometimes practical is nice. You can get a variety of items for the table in aluminum such as carafes, stuff to drink out of, platters, trays and pitchers. If all of this is just a little too "they gotta do better than this for a tenth anniversary" then you might want to just go with the modern day gift which just happens to be diamond jewelry. You know what they say about diamonds being a girl's best friend. Since you're going to see diamond down the road again, you might want to go with something simple and relatively inexpensive. Otherwise, when you get to number fifty, it's going to be hard to outdo yourself. And number ten was supposed to be an easy one. Talk about tough anniversary gifts. Michael Russell

10 Simple Steps To Avoid Phony Telemarketers

By James H. Dimmitt Although telemarketing calls should diminish, especially if youve registered for the national do-not-call list, scam artists are still out there hoping to con you out of your hard earned money. Scam artists dont care about breaking telemarketing sales rules because most are fly-by-night operations that change names and locations quickly before they are caught by authorities. Fraudulent telemarketers favorite victims are the elderly and those on fixed incomes. Why? Because its easy for the phony telemarketer to get them to let their guard down especially when they hear youve won a prize! After all, we all like to win things dont we? The problem here is that the caller asks you to send them money in order to claim your prize. Dont send any caller money if they : 1) refuse to stop selling when you say no. 2) ask for a credit card number in order for you to claim your prize. 3) offer to send a representative or courier to pick up a fee associated with winning a prize. 4) claim another company you dealt with went out of business but you can still claim your prize for a fee. 5) offer to recover money youve lost in a previous con for a recovery fee. 6) try to convince you that this is a once in a lifetime offer and that you must act now. 7) refuse to send you anything in writing to verify your prize. 8) claim that the promised prize is guaranteed. 9) introduce you to a supervisor who congratulates you on being such a lucky person. 10) introduce you to a supervisor who verifies you as the guaranteed winner. Anytime you are contacted by a caller and asked to send money in order to claim a prize, you should: 1) Ask them to remove your name and number from their contact list. 2) Answer any sales pitch or fee request by saying no and end the call immediately, even if the caller continues to talk. 3) Contact your state attorney generals office or your local better business bureau. 4) Contact your local police department and report any suspicious telemarketing calls. Fraudulent telemarketers are criminals. You win the real prize when you dont fall for their phony telephone lines. About The Author 2003, www.yourfreecreditreportnow.com Author: James H. Dimmitt. What in the Name of Jesus

By Michael Tummillo So, what in the Name of Jesus are we doing now? Jesus said, "For where two or three come together IN MY NAME, there am I with them" (Matt 18:20). Great, now what? In Mark 16:17, He assured us that, "...these signs will accompany those who believe: IN MY NAME they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." How's that coming along? Along that same line of thought, He said, (John 14:12-14) "...anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask IN MY NAME, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask Me for anything IN MY NAME, and I will do it." Can I get a witness...anybody? In John 14:26, He assures us, "...the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send IN MY NAME, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." He's here, empowering us. Are we appropriating that power? In John 15:16, He said, "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruitfruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask IN MY NAME." Are we asking for Kingdom things, or are we asking amiss (James 4:3)? And in John 16:24, "Until now you have not asked for anything IN MY NAME. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete." Again, what's the motivation of our hearts when we ask? YOU JUST SAID THE SECRET WOYD! Some mistakenly believe that by saying "In Jesus Name" at the end of a prayer results in God always granting what is asked for, as if He were a genie at our beck and call. This is nothing short of treating the words "in Jesus Name" as if they were a magic formula. Why not exclaim "Abracadabra!" and wait for the results? Bible scholars point out that the expression "in the name of" originally meant "in the spirit of" or "in the manner of." In other words, simply saying "in Jesus' Name," does not mean that a particular prayer really IS in Jesus' Name. Perhaps that alone explains some of our perceived prayer failures. Praying in His Name means that we are saying the kinds of things that He would say or that which we know He taught. A working knowledge of Scripture will certainly prove beneficial in this regard. Praying in Jesus Name means praying with His authority and asking the Father to act upon our prayers because we come in the name of His Son, Jesus. Praying in Jesus' Name means the same thing as praying according to the will of God, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything ACCORDING TO HIS WILL, He hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him" (1 John 5:14-15). Praying in Jesus Name is praying for things that will honor and glorify King Jesus and advance His Kingdom cause. Not OUR kingdom...HIS! If what you asked for in prayer was not for Gods glory and according to His will, saying "In Jesus Name" is meaningless. Genuinely praying in Jesus' Name and for His glory is what is important, not attaching certain words to the end of a prayer. It is not the words we pray that matter, but the purpose behind our prayer. Praying for things that are in agreement with Gods will is the essence of praying in Jesus Name. Amen? Amen! ROGER, OVER 'N OUT? Speaking of 'amen', when we say THAT word at the VERY end of a prayer, it does NOT mean, "Roger, over 'n out!" The Hebrew 'Amen' is derived from the root "aman," which means to be firm or solid in the sense of permanency. Thus by implication, it means to be sure, true or faithful. So whenever we see the word 'Amen' used in Scripture, it is affirming truth, or illustrating something is said that is of absolute certainty. One might proclaim, "Let it be done!" We use it to affirm that we believe all the things we have read, or heard, are true, or that we are confident God hears our petitions. It is like an solemn appeal that we know something with absolute certainty, even that our prayers have truly been heard by God. 1st Peter 3:12, "For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers..." Oddly enough, to get a scriptural answer to what 'Amen' means, we go to a place where it is used not as the last word but the first word. Jesus would often start a solemn statement by saying "Verily" or "Truly". In John 3:3, Jesus is recorded as using the word twice in succession, "Verily, verily, I say to you...". In the original language, this is actually the word "Amen" being used there twice. When we compare an instance of this in Mark, with the same statement in Luke, we find the translators have left the word untranslated, but in Luke it was translated by using the word we translate as "Truly". (Mark 9:1, Luke 9:27). This shows us that the underlying meaning of the word "Amen" is truth and verily. It is a solemn affirmation. So, when we say, "Amen" we are saying, "Yes, before God, I agree with that, I believe that to be true, I want that to be so, Let it be done". WHAT'S IN A NAME? So, what ARE we doing in the Name of Jesus? Are we exercising the Authority that His Name gives us? After all, His is the Name above all names (Phil 2:9). His Name is exalted over names like cancer, divorce, war, violence, dissension, strife, depression, addiction, et al. Are we declaring peace in His Name? Are we commanding healing to spring forth in His Name? Are we speaking to the Spirit of Divorce that has raised its ugly head in our nation's marriages? Are we advancing the Kingdom in His Name, doing warfare as a mighty army, or merely warming pews? The word "Christian" literally means "a little Christ." Acts 11:26 tells us that, "...a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch." Whether the term was a derogatory one that was embraced by the followers of Christ's teachings - not unlike the British referring to the Colonial Revolutionary Army as "Yanks" - is up for debate. Point is, the name stuck and remains 2,000 years later. As "Little Christs," do we dare to step out of our comfort zones and do the things that Jesus said we would do in His Name? God dares us to do so. The devil dares us, too. Sadly, most Christians are only Christians because we weren't born in Iraq. If we had been, we'd be worshipers of Allah. Being a Christian requires devotion to the cause, not merely cheerleading for an ideology. Wearing a "Jesus Saves" t-shirt, placing a silver fish on our bumper and attending Christian conferences does NOT a Christian make. As a young college girl asked me one time, "What do you and Jesus DO together?" Great question. After all, we are referred to God's fellow workers. Co-laborers, if you will. He chooses to work with us and THROUGH us. I'm reminded of the words of Keith Green in his song, "Asleep in the Light." He was 29 when he died in 1982. He was not only a forerunner in the Christian music scene, he also had a clear sense of Jesus' radical call and didn't shy away from his hard truths. These lyrics are more relevant now than ever. Read 'em and weep...then wipe your eyes, blow your nose and let's storm the gates of Hell. Cause He brings people to your door, And you turn them away, as you smile and say, God bless you, be at peace, and all Heaven just weeps, Cause Jesus came to your door, you've left Him out on the streets. Open up, open up, and give yourself away, You've seen the need, you hear the cry, so how can you delay, God's calling and you're the one, but like Jonah you run, He's told you to speak, but you keep holding it in, Oh, can't you see it's such sin? The world is sleeping in the dark, That the church can't fight, cause it's asleep in the light, How can you be so dead, when you've been so well fed, Jesus rose from the grave, and you, you can't even get out of bed, Oh, Jesus rose from the dead, come on, get out of your bed. Emotions: The Negative Effect They Can Have On Your Career

By Carl Mueller Emotions can play a big part in your career particularly when it comes to thinking about leaving one company for another. Certainly if you have been with a company for a significant period of time and/or are close with your manager, you might be very emotional when it comes time to resign your position after accepting a job elsewhere. Emotions can also come into play when considering a new job opportunity that is in front of you. Emotions can cause you to start thinking with your heart rather than your head especially if you are wooed by a potential employer and they make you feel like the most important person in the world. You might find yourself particularly attracted to certain aspects of a potential new job such as the thought of a nice corner office, expense account or working for a more prestigious company that you are working for now. Suddenly, you dont start thinking as clearly as you should be and often it doesnt become apparent until its too late and youve already made your decision based on the emotions you were feeling earlier. The important part of your emotions is ensuring they are kept in check and that they dont override common sense especially when it comes to important career decisions. Here are some thoughts regarding how to minimize the chances that your emotions take over during critical times of decision-making:
1. Whenever possible try to take time to think about your decision before acting on it. For example, if you are considering a job offer and have been given several days by the employer to think about whether to accept or decline it, take a day or so to think about it if youre a bit unsure as to whether or not the job is right for you. Dont feel like you have to make your decision right away if you dont have to. 2. Give proper consideration to decisions that will have a long-term effect. This is especially true when it comes to something that you cant undo ie. resigning a job for another. Always give proper attention to a decision that you cant go back on and ensure that its well-thought out before acting on it. 3. Remember that the grass isnt always greener on the other side. Emotions can come into play when you are in a job that you dont like and feel like youd do anything to escape it. Leaving one bad job for another bad one can happen if you simply look for another company who will hire you and take a new job thinking/hoping/praying it will be better than what you have now. Dont let emotions lead you from one bad situation to another.
